With their unique progressive symphonic rock Focus manifested themselves at the start of the seventies as the most successful and the most appreciated of all the Dutch pop-rock exports. The band were fronted by the much admired duo of Thijs van Leer on the Hammond organ/flute and Jan Akkerman on the guitar. Their hit potential came in the form of a couple of instrumentals, “Hocus Pocus”, “House of the King”, and “Sylvia”, but we shouldn’t forget their timeless albums “Moving Waves”, “Focus 3” and “Hamburger Concerto”. But like all good things, it couldn’t last and internal wrangling ended this legendary group.
After an initial careful comeback which resulted in a well received album “Focus 8”, the band are now back on the frontline, with a fantastic line-up!
Of course the founder member and musical genius Thijs van Leer is still holding the fort. Also back in his old spot is Pierre van der Linden, the drummer who is internationally renowned for his rhythmic skills, and who was a defining factor in the whole Focus sound. Together with Bobby Jacobs who stems from a well acclaimed Dutch jazz family, they are responsible for the rhythm section and that unmistakable Focus groove. The talented Niels van der Steenhoven, who without any shadow of a doubt can hit the mark when it comes to the guitar completes the band’s line-up.

A new Focus era has arrived. There is a rejuvenated passion in the new compositions, that adorn the new album “New Skin”, which gets a worldwide release in September 2006. During the concert loyal fans will hear once again all the classic Focus tunes and they will be surprised at the strength and depth of the new material. “Our music is evolution, not revolution”, Thijs van Leer once said about the music of Focus. Well now, the evolution is at full pace.

Met haar unieke progressieve symfonische rock manifesteerde Focus zich in de eerste helft van de zeventiger jaren als het succesvolste en meest gewaardeerde exportprodukt van de Nederlandse popmuziek. Onder leiding van het geroemde duo Thijs van Leer op Hammond-orgel/dwarsfluit en Jan Akkerman op gitaar werden hoofdzakelijk instrumentale hits als ‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘House of the King’ en ‘Sylvia’ en tijdloze albums als ‘Moving Waves’, ‘Focus 3’ en ‘Hamburger Concerto’ voortgebracht. Interne strubbelingen maakten echter een einde aan de legendarische groep.
Na een comeback die zich tot dusver hoofdzakelijk buiten onze landsgrenzen afspeelde en resulteerde in de uitstekend ontvangen cd ‘Focus 8’, is de band nu ook in eigen land terug in de frontlinie. En in een topbezetting!
Uiteraard is oprichter en muzikaal genie Thijs van Leer van de partij.
Terug op het vertrouwde nest is ook Pierre van der Linden, de drummer die zo bepalend was voor het geluid van Focus en die nog altijd wordt beschouwd als een van de, zoniet dé beste drummer van Nederland. Samen met bassist Bobby Jacobs –telg uit de beroemde jazzfamilie- zorgt deze ritmesectie voor de swing en groove die Focus zo kenmerkt. De getalenteerde Niels van der Steenhoven, die zich zonder meer kan meten met menig internationaal gitaarvirtuoos, completeert de band.

Een nieuw Focus-tijdperk is aangebroken. Meer dan ooit worden met jeugdig élan nieuwe composities geschreven, die september 2006 op de wereldwijd uit te brengen cd ‘New Skin’ openbaar worden gemaakt. In combinatie met een bloemlezing uit het klassieke repertoire van Focus zullen tijdens de ‘New Skin’ Theater Tour trouwe volgers van de band worden verrast en nieuwe generaties fans enthousiast worden gemaakt. ‘Our music is evolution, not revolution’, zei Thijs van Leer ooit over de muziek van Focus. Welnu, de evolutie is in volle gang.
